Animal Farm

So I have read Animal Farm (1945) reacently and I would recommend it to almost everyone I know, cause it was really good.

The book was written by George Orwell (1903-1950) and is written like a fairy tale and is about the communist revolution and the time in the Sovjet Union during Stalins ascent to power and his time as leader. It might be about a longer time than that but I do know it is at least about that time.

So why did I think this book was so good, well there are many aspects to it. To begin with, it is super easy to read and short. Not that I have problems reading or dislike long books but it was nice to read something that was short but still very fullfilling to read. As I pointed out it is written like a fairy tale/story, which I would say makes it a lot better then if it had not been written in that style. Why do I think that?

Because fairy tales are often seen as childish, simpel or just trying to be a moral cake wrapped inside a short tale which must have a happy ending. Yes I did make generalizations now to emphasis my point, that the fact that Animal Farm is a fairy tale makes it better since it does not follow all of the mentioned traits of a fairy tale. Or does it?

By using this form of storytelling that is commonly associated with kids stories and heart warming tales it becomes so obvious how awful it was in the Sovjet Union. The “contrast” created between what is usally a nice and kind form of storytelling with the cruelty and abuse that was in the Sovjet Union, you really understand how horrible it was. At leaste it gave me a better understanding of how awfull it actually was, which I had not understood before.

I might write some more posts about this book later on… only time can tell.
